Ten-line SIM card launched for Saudi market

/

A SIM card capable of running 10 separate phone lines has been launched in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Gazette reported.

Saudi-based provider Mawj Telecom presented the new card at the Saudi 2013 Infocomm Seminar and Exhibition in Riyadh yesterday. The card, known as the Mawj Smart SIM card, is an ultra-thin SIM, capable of controlling another. Subscribers can stick the Mawj card to their current SIM and keep their existing number, but add more as needed. The combined cards are said to be compatible with all standard phones, fitting in a single slot.

"We have introduced this state-of-the-art innovation, named Mawj SIM Card, to the Saudi market at a time when innovation is becoming increasingly vital to fuel the kingdom's future growth, especially now that the usage of mobile technology is gaining momentum and mobile penetration is deepening," said Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Meheihi, co-chairman of the Saudi-Singaporean Business Council at the Council of Saudi Chambers, and chairman of Mawj Telecom.

According to Wee Ah Kee, CEO of Mawj, the card also supports international roaming, including functionality that allows the SIM to behave like that of a local subscriber, thereby saving on charges.
